BACKSTORY: We first met Captain Kayato and Rikki Rocket in Just B Cuz Productions’ theatrical play THE LAST KID IN THE UNIVERSE. CAPTAIN KAYATO AND THE CATSAIRS takes place roughly two years before the events in that play. The first episode of our series starts right after the Catsairs have rescued the human girl Rikki Rocket from the evil Osaverans and their hideous prison planet.
| CAST MEMBER | CHARACTER | DESCRIPTION | ACTOR BIO |
Jeff Stacer![]() | Captain Kayato![]() | The brave Captain Kayato is well known for his prowess as an astronavigator by the citizens of Planet Katt. Somehow he ended up the captain of the Freedomquest, known as the Seventh Fastest Ship in the Galaxy. (They hope to reach sixth… someday.) One by one, he found his crew members that would become his Catsairs. Now, the good Captain plans daring rades on the Osaveran strongholds to try to steal back what those evil aliens originally stole and get the treasures back to their original owners. | Jeff (he/him) has appeared in numerous productions at LowellArts Theatre, the Manistee Civic Players, the Thumb Drama League, Lost in the Cove Productions, and the Ionia Community Theatre. Previous credits include The Nerd (twice), The Runner Stumbles, Murder by Natural Causes, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Jeff also gets to work with the other two founding members of the three man sketch comedy group, Public Domain, Rob Freund and Brent Alles. |
Rob Freund![]() | “Big” Bill![]() | A friendly, lovable, and loyal big orange cat who coincidentally loves lasagna and HATES Mondays (coincidentally, we said). Bill may not be the brightest cat in the pack, but his size and power more than make up for any shortcomings that he may have. One of the biggest and the best of the Catsairs! | Rob (he/him) fell in love with acting in the third grade and has been regularly involved with the theater in some capacity ever since. He is also passionate about human experience, having earned BA in History from GVSU and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Paralegal Studies from Davenport University. He is a founding member of the Grand Rapids, Michigan based comedy troupe, Public Domain. |
Sarah Harmon![]() | Sam Antha![]() | The black and white furred Sam Antha is the chief communications officer for the Freedomquest and definitely is smarter than the Captain. But, what can she say, she loves that rascally old Kayato. Along with her (fraternal) twin sister Dean Nah, her agility at evading laser defenses and proficiency at hand-to-hand combat definitely come in handy for the Catsairs when they get into a fight. | Sarah is perhaps best known as the villainous “Countess/Empress Malice” in the Danny Trooper plays. She is thrilled that relocating to Paris did not prevent her from participating in this project. She has also performed as Monica Tomb in Tomb With a View and Queen Jadis in The Magician’s Nephew, as well as stage managing and assistant directing several shows. When she’s not busy being a cat, Sarah is a book editor, photographer, and tutor with a striking resemblance to Carmen Sandiego (minus the kleptomania), in that she is usually wearing red and constantly being asked where in the world she is. |
Janna Chesser![]() (Sabrina Schmidt in Episode 1) | Dean Nah![]() | The orange and white furred Dean Nah is the chief engineer for the Freedomquest and, as mentioned, the fraternal twin sister of Sam Antha. Besides her technical proficiency, she also is very agile and an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. | |
Christina Koutouzos![]() | Rikki Rocket![]() | Tween girl Rikki Rocket was minding her own business, sitting in the back of her parents’ vehicle one evening while they were going down a rural Nebraska road. It was at that point that the evil Osaverans abducted Rikki and her parents and took them to the Osaveran prison planet. Unfortunately, Rikki’s parents didn’t survive, but Rikki was rescued at the last moment by the Catsairs. In gratitude (and somewhat out of necessity), she joined the Catsairs as a “cadet in training,” and participates in missions with them until she can hopefully get back home to Earth… one day. | Christina is a stand-up comic in the Grand Rapids, MI, area and has performed sketch comedy with Public Domain previously, most recently in the “PUBLIC DOMAIN COMEDY SPECTACULAR.” |
Joseph Harris![]() | PAL-9000![]() | At one point, the Freedomquest needed a new operating system, and Captain Kayato decided to try and save money by cutting corners and purchasing this admittedly “buggy” operating system from the alien E-Lon Muskk. To be fair, PAL-9000 is pretty efficient at running the computerized aspects of the ship… when it’s not trying to do away with the other crew members, of course. | Joseph Harris is excited to share their voice for such a fun project. They studied Art Education at Grand Valley State University and currently work as a Kidney Transplant Financial Coordinator. In their spare time they enjoy trying out new restaurants with their husband, playing DND with friends as well as taking opportunities to return to the stage when time allows. Most recent stage credits include “Charlie” from Samuel Hunter’s The Whale with Lowell Arts. |
Ryan Vaughan![]() | Encyclopedia Intergalactica![]() | Encyclopedia Intergalactica( E-I) is a know-it-all AI. It’s essentially a massive living database that Captain Kayato and the crew consult whenever they need information about a planet, a species, a historical event, or some strange phenomenon they’ve run into. E-I answers questions with total confidence and precision, often delivering long, fact-packed explanations that the crew may or may not actually want to hear. Even though it presents itself as purely logical, E-I occasionally reveals a bit of personality: dry humor, mild sarcasm, and a quiet curiosity about the crew it serves. In many ways, E-I acts as the crew’s guide to the wider universe, helping them understand the strange places and people they encounter while also providing a running commentary on their adventures. | Ryan Vaughan Ryan has been performing in some way, shape, or form of theatre for over twenty years. Favorite past roles include George Banks, Bill Sykes, MacDuff, Cassius, and Eugene (the nerd in Grease) ! Working on this production has been extra special for him to have the opportunity to step into the world of ModMyth! |
